This timepiece is from the Presage Cocktail Time collection, watches inspired by the Japanese cocktail culture in Tokyo’s sophisticated Ginza area, each named after a specific cocktail.

This particular design is named after 'The Red Brick' cocktail and features a modern twist on the classic skeleton style. The rich gradated dial colour is designed to represent the shimmering light on the surface of the cocktail, as it settles on the bar after being carefully mixed.

In Japan, traditionally ‘Nomunication hour’ – a hybrid of nomu (drink) and communication - is after 5pm, when it's cocktail hour and time to talk things over. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time collection was inspired by this Japanese tradition of finishing the working day off with a cocktail and a chat - with each timepiece named after drinks mixed by Hisashi Kishi, head bartender and owner of Star Bar in Tokyo’s Ginza area and a past winner of the International Bar Association World Championships.

The Case:

The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Star Bar 'Red Brick' is housed in a circular stainless steel case that measures 40.5mm in diameter. The case adheres to the design codes of a classic dress watch. With its simple and elegant stylings that are accentuated by its polished finish. It features a fixed bezel, short curved lugs and a push/pull crown at 3 o’clock. The case is complete with hardlex crystal glass. 

The Dial:

The uniquely designed red dial is inspired by Japanese cocktail culture in Tokyo’s sophisticated Ginza area. The textured design of the ‘Red Brick’ is specifically inspired by the surface of the cocktail and the shimmering light that reflects off of it, as it settles on the bar after being carefully mixed. The dial also showcases a partly skeletonised design, which reveals the complex inner workings of the timepiece. It also exhibits gold applied dagger-style hour markers and an elegant dauphine style handset. The Seiko logo is located beside the 3 o’clock marker. 

The Strap:

The watch is presented on a tasteful black leather strap with stitching that runs down the side. It fastens through the use of a standard buckle made out of stainless steel. 

The Functions:

The SSA457J1 is powered by Seiko’s mechanical automatic 4R72 calibre movement, which offers a power reserve of 45 hours. It is water resistant to 50 metres, which means it can be worn when swimming in shallow water. It is limited to just 5000 pieces worldwide.
