The Japanese liqueur Midori, which is derived from Yubari melon and has a sweet flavor balanced by the acidity of lemon, gives the Midori Sour its hypnotic bright green hue and makes it a "sweet & sour" lengthy drink that enhances its freshness. During the International Bartending Championship in Tokyo in 1971, Midori was formally introduced. Suntory from Osaka, one of the oldest alcoholic beverage production and distribution firms in the Land of the Rising Sun, came up with the name.
